Taking the next step
“We need to study and practice Buddha’s teachings:
To develop our wisdom,
To cultivate a good heart, and
To maintain a peaceful state of mind”
Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
What is Foundation Program (FP)?
FP is a structured study program for those wishing to deepen their understanding and practice of Buddha’s teachings.
Who can join?
Since Buddha’s teachings are of benefit to all, anyone with a sincere wish to join is welcome.
New students are advised to attend some weekly drop-in sessions before enrolling, to gain some experience of Buddhist teachings.
Prior arrangements may be made to attend a trial class to help you come to a decision about enrolling.
The benefits of joining FP include:
- The systematic study of a set of texts by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, which reveal the entire path to enlightenment.
- Studying in the company of like-minded students. FP students are in the fortunate position of being able to make meaningful spiritual friendships and support each other in their study and practice of Buddhism.
- Making a commitment to study. FP students make a number of commitments, such as attending scheduled classes, reading sections of the text before class and taking part in discussion groups. By committing ourselves in this way, we set up a study regime that enables us to really focus on Buddha’s teachings.
- Through the program we mix our mind with Buddha’s teachings and practise them in our daily life. Without such a commitment we are easily distracted and our practice can lack the power that allows us to truly transform our lives.
When are classes held?
FP classes are held on scheduled Sundays at 3.30 – 7.30pm. There are two sessions, with a refreshment break in between.
Where are classes held?
FP classes are held at our Centre in the Health & Wellness Hub, 70 Maclaurin Crescent, Chifley.
When can I join?
New students can join at any time during the study of each text.
Currently the text being studied is Meaningful to Behold, which is a commentary to the great Buddhist classic Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life.
It is an immensely practical commentary that shows how we can follow the noble way of life of a Bodhisattva within the context of our daily lives.
FP classes are taught by Resident Teacher, Kelsang Tsering
FP course fees of $100 are paid monthly in advance, and include admission to other classes and courses run by the Centre at no extra cost.
