An open teaching for anyone interested in knowing more about Foundation Program – one off fee $15 (free for Centre Members)

The Foundation Program (FP) is about to begin the study of a new book, The New Heart of Wisdom, by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche. FP, in general, is an opportunity to deepen our understanding and experience of Buddha’s teachings. Studying The New Heart of Wisdom, in particular, offers an opportunity to gain deep insight into the ultimate nature of reality through which we can become permanently free from all suffering. Everyone is welcome to come along to this introduction with our Resident Teacher Gen Lhachog to find out more about what’s involved in studying on FP and what to expect from studying this special book.

Foundation Program

Studying on FP offers an opportunity to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the spiritual path taught by Buddha. Through this study, we gain greater clarity about what we need to practise, how to practise and, most importantly, why we want to practise.

Classes are designed to emphasise improving our personal, practical experience of Buddha’s teachings, not just our intellectual knowledge, so that we can make authentic progress in the development of our wisdom and compassion.

Everyone is welcome to join FP, regardless of previous experience, though you may wish to try our general classes first, such as our weekly classes in Turner. Unlike our other classes, FP is an enrolment based study program. If you’re interested you are welcome to attend 1-2 trial classes before enrolling.

The classes are held most Mondays between 6-9.30pm with a short break for refreshments.

At Bodhisattva Kadampa Buddhist Centre, Chifley Health & Wellness Hub, 70 Maclaurin Crescent, Chifley

$100/month which includes admission to other classes and courses run by the Centre at no extra cost.

Do I need previous experience?

Everyone is welcome to join FP but you might find it helpful to try one of our general program classes first. These classes give you an introduction to modern Buddhism without needing to make any commitments. You can find information about our general program classes in Turner here and Chifley here. We also run monthly workshops.

Can I join anytime?

You can join FP at any time – you don’t need to wait for the start of a new book or section.

I'm not sure if FP is for me - can I try it out first?

Yes! Contact us at epc@meditateincanberra.org to arrange coming along to try a class.

Do I need to bring anything?

You will need a copy of the book, The New Heart of Wisdom, which you can purchase from our bookshop at the Centre or online. People find it useful to bring a notebook and pen to take notes during the teaching for future reference.

How often are classes held?

Classes are held most Monday evenings, though there are weeks off throughout the year. A schedule is prepared a few months in advance so you can make plans for holidays etc.

I have more questions, who can I ask?

You’re welcome to give us a call on 0477 044 607, email us at epc@meditateincanberra.org or message us via Facebook Messenger from the home page of our website
